Jimmy Garoppolo injury update: 49ers QB touted to be fit in time for playoffs

The San Francisco 49ers could be getting quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo back sooner than they initially thought. With the quarterback out with an ankle injury, rookie Brock Purdy has done a superb job at keeping the team afloat.

With the 49ers absolutely rolling with an 11-4 record and a playoff spot locked up, they could be getting even stronger when the playoffs roll around.

Who are the current Super Bowl favorites?

Per Albert Breer, Garoppolo could return in time for the playoffs. This is sensational news for the organization and this, for many, represents Jimmy G's best chance at winning a Super Bowl.

Jimmy Garoppolo’s gamble in staying with the Niners seems like it’s paying off handsomely. Could return in January to lead a Super Bowl roster. And two staffs he has close ties to now could have a QB need in March.

Garoppolo's time in San Francisco is thought to not extend beyond this season as Trey Lance has the keys to the kingdom. Meanwhile, Garoppolo could put himself firmly in the shop window for several teams who are in desperate need of a new quarterback.

Winning a Super Bowl would certainly thrust him to the top of most teams' lists when deciding on a new quarterback.

With Brock Purdy playing sensational football (4-0), many have thought that the rookie would be able to lead the 49ers to a Super Bowl win.

While that may be a little tough on the rookie, his play certainly warrants that kind of credit. It also helps to have the best defense in football and perhaps the best defensive player in Nick Bosa as well.

The defense allows only 15.3 points per game (1st in the NFL), so Purdy only needs to score on average around 17 points to get a win.

With Tom Brady's former backup potentially back in the saddle, the 49ers' offense can easily score 20+ points in a game. Tight end George Kittle has emerged as the sensational player he has been over the last few weeks, so adding a veteran quarterback will only enhance what is already a superb offense.

Just how physically ready Jimmy G will be remains to be seen. But no one can argue that having him under center gives the 49ers a better chance at winning.

The veteran quarterback's decision to remain in San Francisco is looking better with each passing day. He could very well end up hoisting a Lombardi trophy at the end of it.
