Joe Burrow drops key tips for Caleb Williams before Bengals vs Bears preseason game
Ahead of Saturday's preseason game between the Cincinnati Bengals and the Chicago Bears, Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow gave rookie counterpart Caleb Williams some advice.
While Williams played a 13-game season last year at USC, Burrow warned him that it's tougher to stay healthy in a longer 17-game NFL season. Burrow has had his fair share of injuries in the league and is hoping Williams can learn from his experience/advice.
Burrow said to the Chicago Tribune:
"What you don’t realize at the beginning is how long the season is. You grow and you learn as time goes by with how to maintain your body and maintain your mind for those tough times. Because from Week 11 to 15, it’s really a grind. You only get one bye week."
"My last year in college, we had 12 games and two bye weeks. So the season is a grind. But you learn from every rep. And as long as you grow and you learn and you have great coaches, then you’re all right," Burrow said.
The two teams will square off on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. ET, with the Bears hosting the Bengals.
Will Caleb Williams and Joe Burrow suit up against each other tomorrow?
Ahead of Saturday's preseason game, Chicago Bears coach Matt Eberflus announced that Caleb Williams and his starters will once again play.
In his NFL preseason debut on August 10, Caleb Wiliams completed four of his seven pass attempts for 95 yards and had a 13-yard run.
On the other hand, Bengals coach Zac Taylor said Joe Burrow and his starters will not play Saturday against the Bears. Burrow did not suit up in Cincinnati's preseason debut, and he will likely not play against the Indianapolis Colts on August 22 either.
Burrow is returning from a wrist injury that forced him to miss the end of the 2023 season. He is expected to be ready by Week 1 and recently said he's pleased with his progression.
“I’m happy with where I’m at,” Burrow said via Pro Football Network. “We got a couple more weeks of good work before we play our first game. So a lot of reps to improve on. But we’re moving in the right direction.”
The Bengals will open its regular season versus the New England Patriots on the road on September 8.
