Joe Burrow reveals innovative combination for wrist injury recovery with new hobby
Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow is working his way back from a season-ending wrist injury that cost him most of the 2023 NFL season. In a recent interview with Complex, the Bengals quarterback revealed that he picked up a new hobby during the offseason that also helped with his recovery.
Ben Felderstein shared the question-and-answer session he had with Burrow and the question he asked the quarterback about sharing an aspect of his life that they may not know.
Q: "For sure, in that spirit, what's one thing that the fans might not know about you that you want them to know?"
Joe Burrow shared that he is currently learning how to play the piano. He said not only is it a new skill but it also helped with the rehabilitation of his wrist injury. He said that the skill is one that he has always wanted to learn and is hopeful he can get even better by next offseason, if his regular season schedule permits.
"I’m learning the piano right now, hopefully I can get pretty good at that by next offseason," Burrow said. "I guess it'll be pretty tough during the season, but it's helped my rehab too for my wrist, so that's something I want to get good at. ...
"I've always wanted to learn how to play, but this was an opportune time to work on my hand and wrist dexterity while also learning that. So it was kind of the perfect storm."
The movement of the hand and wrist while playing the piano had helped the quarterback with mobility as he worked his way back after tearing a ligament in his right wrist in Week 11 last season.
Bengals QB Joe Burrow discusses his focus on health heading into 2024
Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow's season may have ended with a wrist injury but it wasn't the only injury he dealt with in 2023. The quarterback injured his right calf in training camp which hindered his abilities at the start of the season as well.
While speaking with Complex, he also emphasized that taking care of his body is the only way he will lead the Bengals back to a Super Bowl. Burrow said that his number one focus is playing every game next season. He also expressed confidence in his abilities as a quarterback to play at the highest level.
"Well, number one, I want to be on the field for all the games," Burrow said. "I know I'm going to play well when I'm out there. I'm at that point in my career where I've seen enough to know myself that I can go out there and play as well as anybody in the game."
Joe Burrow said that knowing how much his body can take and learning how to stay in game shape and not doing too much will be key to staying healthy:
“The biggest strides this year are going to be my body and learning how to get through the season, get through practices with my body, and feeling in tip-top shape. And so that's the main focus for the offseason."
Aside from rehabilitating his wrist, Joe Burrow has also spent the offseason traveling. He and former LSU teammate, Justin Jefferson went to Paris Fashion Week in June. The quarterback even walked the runway at the Vogue Show.
