Joe Burrow's barber breaks down QB's viral blond buzz cut debut
Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow shocked fans when he arrived to training camp with a bleached buzz cut. It was a completely different look than his normal brown, flowy hair style. His barber, Darnell Bonner recently spoke to GQ magazine about the quarterback's decision to try something new.
Bonner has been Burrow's barber since he began playing with the Cincinnati Bengals in 2020. He said that earlier in the summer, Burrow contacted him and said he wanted to try something new.
Bonner considered a bleached, buzz look but didn't think the quarterback would agree to it. He was shocked when Joe Burrow suggested it himself to have the cut after Paris Fashion Week:
"Almost a month before we did the buzz cut, [Burrow] reached out to me and [said], 'I want to try something new. Shoot me some ideas.' Now, mind you, he always has his own ideas with the haircuts, and this was kind of the first time he put the ball in my court. Actually I was going to send him a picture of a bleached buzz cut, but I'm like, 'You know what? I know he's not talking this crazy.'
"So I didn't suggest it. I sent him a couple ideas. We just did a simple haircut before he flew out to France and Italy for Fashion Week. And he said, 'This is for this week, but next week, I think we're going to go ahead and try this buzz cut.' So I'm like, 'Are you sure? You ready to do this?' Ultimately it was his idea."
This isn't the first time Burrow has experimented with a bleached blonde look. In 2014, he and his high school teammates at Athens High School in Plains, Ohio, dyed their hair after they won the regional division finals.

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow decided on his new hair style due to boredom. Burrow recently spoke to reporters during training camp and said that he and teammate B.J. Hill decided on the look as the defensive back is also supposed to sport the same hairstyle.
"B.J. [Hill] said if I buzzed it and bleached it, he would do it, too. So now everybody's gotta hold him accountable 'cause he's gotta do it in the next week. ...
"I got bored, that's about it."
Joe Burrow is still waiting for Hill to make the similar hairstyle move. In the meantime though another one of his Cincinnati Bengals teammates had some thoughts on the quarterback's hair.
"It look like yours. If he like it, I like it," Higgins said.
Wide receiver Tee Higgins was asked by reporters about Joe Burrow's new bleached buzz cut and he ultimately said that as long as Burrow likes it, so does he. Higgins also joked that Joe Burrow's haircut resembled that of a Bengals reporter.
