Joe Burrow settles ‘Burrowhead’ controversy once and for all
Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals are undoubtedly the Kansas City Chiefs' biggest rivals. The 27-year-old quarterback holds a 3-1 record against Patrick Mahomes, and every time the two teams face each other, it results in a great game.
Before the 2023 AFC Championship Game, Burrow had never lost to Mahomes' team, due to which some of the Bengals players started calling the Arrowhead Stadium the "Burrowhead Stadium." The Chiefs, to no one's surprise, didn't like that and mocked the Bengals after they defeated them 23-20.
The Bengals quarterback recently appeared on Barstool Sports' Pardon My Take and was asked about the teams he liked to beat the most. He said:
“Any divison team... beating the Chiefs is fun.”
Burrow was later asked whether he likes the name "Burrowhead", to which he replied:
“I’m going to ride or die with my guys so if they’re saying it, I’m gonna go with it. But I would not say that I would say that.”
The Bengals players, including Ja'Marr Chase, have never shied away from taking digs at the Chiefs. Similarly, the Chiefs also have no love lost for the Bengals, and after they won the AFC Championship Game against the AFC North Franchise, Travis Kelce delivered an iconic speech in which he took shots at the Cincinnati Mayor and all the Bengals players who were calling their stadium "Burrowhead.".
Kelce famously said, "Burrowhead, my a**, it's Mahomes' house." Since then, Burrow hasn't played the Chiefs, and it will be interesting to see how things fare in Week 2 when the reigning Super Bowl champions will travel to Cincinnati.
Are Joe Burrow's Bengals the biggest obstacle to the Chiefs' three-peat bid?
The Kansas City Chiefs are aiming to become the first team in the history of the NFL to win three straight Super Bowls. Last year, they overcame all the odds and, despite having the worst offense since Patrick Mahomes became their quarterback, came through to win the Super Bowl.
Their roster is much better this season, and they are in a great position to three-peat. However, with Joe Burrow now back and healthy, the Bengals pose the biggest threat to the Chiefs. Burrow dealt with multiple injuries last year and played only 10 games. He is fully healthy to start the upcoming season and he will be more motivated than ever to win his first Super Bowl.
The upcoming season is crucial for the Bengals, as they could lose star players like Tee Higgins and Trey Hendrickson after this year, which will reduce their chances of being a perennial contender. As a result, Joe Burrow and the team should make the most of their opportunity and give the defending champions a run for their money in their quest to make history.
