Jordan Love responds to Aaron Rodgers' offer to buy his Green Bay house after signing mammoth $220,000,000 contract extension
Jordan Love has responded to Aaron Rodgers after the man he replaced at Green Bay congratulated him for getting a four-year, $220 million contract. It makes the Packers quarterback the highest-paid player in the league, tied with Joe Burrow and Trevor Lawrence, in terms of the average annual value of their deals. That it has come on the back of only one season as the starter shows how highly the franchise thinks of Jordan Love.
Aaron Rodgers congratulated him and offered his house in Green Bay to his successor, which is listed for sale. Speaking to the NFL media, the four-time MVP said:
“Well, first of all, since you mentioned it. I want to give a shout out to Jordan Love becoming the highest paid player in the NFL. Jordan Love don't spend it all in one place. But if you do, I still have a house in Green Bay that's up for sale.”
In response to that, the current Packers star replied, declining the offer:
"A-Rod I won't be buying your house, man. But I'll go check on it, make sure it's well taken care of."
Jordan Love's comments to Aaron Rodgers could be metaphorical
The response Jordan Love gave to Aaron Rodgers' initial comments were all delivered half-jokingly. But they conceal a sentiment that could explain the dynamic between the two.
When the current Green Bay star, who learned his ropes behind the NFL great for three years before getting the starting job, said that he did not want to buy the latter's house but promised to look after it, he might as well have been talking about the Packers. Love does not want to buy his way to the legendary status that Rodgers has at Lambeau Field because he does not want his contract to define what he can achieve there.
But at the same time, the youngster is promising to take care of the legacy that the veteran quarterback has left behind in Green Bay. He has already exceeded expectations in that regard during his first season after leading the Packers to the playoffs after Aaron Rodgers failed to do so in his final season. That is why he has a brand new contract.
But Love will now need to replicate the success that Aaron Rodgers enjoyed for fifteen years in Green Bay. Only then will his true worth with the Packers fans be known, his current league-leading contract notwithstanding.
