Jordan Love will request trade in 2023 if he doesn’t take over from Aaron Rodgers: report

Jordan Love has been sitting quietly by, waiting for Aaron Rodgers to step aside to make room for him. However, after three years, the backup first-round pick is running out of patience. According to Packers insider Jason Wilde via Yahoo News, the quarterback left the insider feeling that a trade request could be coming. Here's how Wilde put it:

“I had a really great conversation with Jordan [Love] on Friday afternoon. I think he very clearly, even though he wouldn’t flat-out say it, he does not want to sit for another year. So, if we get to year four, and Rodgers does come back, I am fairly confident that he will seek a trade.”

Aaron Rodgers is playing on a deal worth $150 million that runs through 2026. As it stands, unless the quarterback retires from the game, the Packers are on a trajectory to feature him once again in 2023. In other words, as Wilde put it, if this comes to pass, his indication is that Love will ask for a way out by the start of the 2023 season.

Unless he takes over from Rodgers in the coming weeks in a permanent fashion, it will be three full years of holding the clipboard for Jordan Love. Love was drafted with the 26th overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.

.@jasonjwilde says he believes Jordan Love will seek a trade this offseason if he's not the starter based on a conversation they had Friday.

We could be barreling toward a, "It's him or me," situation for the #Packers.

Remember, Rodgers didn't love sitting behind Favre either

Like No. 12 before him, Love spent his first full year out of public view, relegated to being a trivia question. In 2021, he became the full-time backup quarterback, starting one game in a losing effort. Over the course of the season, he threw for two touchdowns and three interceptions.

In 2022, while not starting a game, he did take over for No. 12 in a primetime spot against the Philadelphia Eagles. He completed a touchdown throw in the game and looked much more comfortable compared to 2021.

Will Jordan Love finish 2023 with the Green Bay Packers or could he be starting for another team with a chip on his shoulder?
