"Josh Allen is in the draft" - Bomani Jones has his say on top 2023 NFL draft prospect
Just as we approach towards the 2023 NFL draft, the usual comparisons have begun to gather about which quarterback will be the next Josh Allen. The Buffalo Bills quarterback is one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL, and his growth as a player has been remarkable.
After a very poor rookie season, Allen transformed himself into a quarterback with one of the most unique skillsets in the history of the game. While there have been talks about Kentucky's Will Levis possessing a similar skillset to Allen, Bomani Jones thinks that there is another quarterback who resembles him more.
Here's what Bomani Jones said on "The Right Time" with Dominique Foxworth as his guest:
"You and I will both go in all programs and people asking questions about who's the next Josh Allen. I don't know why we're not doing that this year, because this year, the exact same Josh Allen is in the draft and his name is Anthony Richardson."
Jones continued:
"Now, can he become the Josh Allen that we ultimately saw? It's highly unlikely, but if you saw the Josh Allen at Wyoming and thought, whoa, that guy could be a quarterback. Anthony Richardson is him but faster and I'm not exaggerating."
Anthony Richardson can certainly throw the ball with venom and he is faster than Josh Allen. However, not everyone can replicate the success that Allen has had with the Buffalo Bills.
There are still concerns about Richardson, but so are there about all the other prospects. He will, however, be a player to keep an eye on as his development could be interesting.
Anthony Richardson will be a big question in the 2023 NFL draft
Many mock drafts have projected Anthony Richardson to be drafted between the 10th-20th overall picks in the 2023 NFL draft. Any team that drafts him will certainly be in the news.
He has a lot of potential, but many people believe he won't be able to translate it in the NFL. Being compared to Josh Allen will certainly boost his morale, but if he wants to succeed, the former Gator quarterback will be required to develop well.
Currently, Bryce Young, C.J. Stroud, and Will Levis are all projected to be drafted ahead of Richardson. However, many things could change as we progress further towards the 2023 NFL draft.
