JuJu Smith-Schuster names the team he wants to play for in 2022
Pittsburgh Steelers star JuJu Smith-Schuster will officially become a free agent in just a few weeks. This week, while at an event for 7-Eleven, the wide receiver said he expects to hit free agency when the signing period opens, insinuating that he doesn't expect to get a deal done with the Pittsburgh Steelers like he did last offseason.
Speaking about his plans, Smith-Schuster said he wouldn't mind playing for the Dallas Cowboys. He also praised quarterback Dak Prescott, who was also at the event, and the rest of the Cowboys organization:
The wide receiver said:
“He’s a great quarterback. Catching balls from him in a facility like this, I wouldn’t mind it. He has some good guys around him, a great team, a great organization. So you never know."
He also took a slight dig at the Pittsburgh Steelers while complimenting the Ford Center At the Star, the Dallas Cowboys' state-of-the-art facility. The wide receiver said:
“(The Cowboys' practice facility) is unbeatable. The Steelers are still working on trying to get out of the wooden locker rooms. And over here, it’s very prestige. Oh, they’ll definitely hear this. I want them (the Steelers) to hear this.”
When asked if he would want to play with Smith-Schuster, Prescott said:
“I mean, yeah, for sure. I don’t want to cause any tampering or anything. We’re at 7-Eleven today. But obviously, a great player. Just getting to know him away from the game, yeah, he’s going to be a great player, wherever he is.”
Could the Cowboys offer JuJu Smith-Schuster a contract?
Juju Smith-Schuster has plenty of options in free agency
With wide receiver Michael Gallup set to undergo surgery to repair a torn ACL and become a free agent, the Cowboys could look to add Smith-Schuster to their roster.
Last offseason, he passed on lucrative multi-year deals from the Baltimore Ravens and Kansas City Chiefs and signed a one-year deal with the Steelers to play with quarterback Ben Roethlisberger in his final season in the NFL.
He was limited to only five games during the regular season due to a shoulder injury, which was expected to rule him out for the rest of the campaign. But he recovered in time to feature in the Steelers' AFC Wild Card round matchup against the Chiefs.
Kansas City is on the lookout for a strong option at wideout to complement Tyreek Hill and could reinvigorate their interest in Smith-Schuster this season.
