Julian Edelman shares hilarious tale of how WWE legend Shawn Michaels got him suspended from school
Julian Edelman, like so many, grew up watching WWE in the mid to late 1990s watching the Attitude Era. One such wrestler was Shawn Michaels, one of the members of the legendary faction Degeneration-X (DX). On the Games with Names podcast, Edelman shared a story of how doing one of DX's signature signs got him in trouble in school.
Edelman said:
"I got suspended for saying 'Suck it' or doing a 'suck it' to my PE teacher at lunch and a lady walking by, flagged them down. Told him I end up getting suspended for a day of school because I said, 'suck it.' This little f**kin 10-year-old me full 'Suck It' sign. Giving them Suck Its."
Michaels responded:
"More kids got expelled than I can possibly shake a stick at. Yeah, that still happening today."
During the same interview, Edelman asked the two-time WWE Hall of Famer about his chances of becoming a wrestler in WWE. Michaels mentioned that the company had former NFL punter Pat McAfee wrestle for them.
"We took a punter, for heaven's sake. You, my friend, are way more athletic than McAfee, and Pat was pretty darn good. You'd be a piece of cake. You'd be a machine. Plus, with your work ethic, it wouldn't be tough."
The Super Bowl-winning wide receiver followed by asking if he would have to be a heel.
Michaels said:
"For sure, that just comes naturally to you. Down here in Florida, coming from New England, you don't have a chance. Doesn't matter where you're actually from. As far as everyone is concerned, you're a New England Patriot and that's it. They'll boo you out of the building no matter where you're at."
Julian Edelman played his entire 11-year NFL career with the New England Patriots, one of the most disliked franchises in the league. However, it begs the question: is there a slight chance we'll see the Super Bowl 53 MVP in a WWE ring?

Julian Edelman retired from the NFL last year but has suffered many injuries throughout his career. These injuries include a knee patella strain, an ACL tear, and various concussions. However, as Shawn Michaels eluded to, former Indianapolis Colts punter Pat McAfee has fought in the squared circle for WWE.
McAfee's most recent fight was at WrestleMania 38 against Austin Theory and then an impromptu match against Vince McMahon. Despite the injuries, could Julian Edelman come out of retirement to fight for WWE? We'll have to wait and see.
