Julian Edelman still struggling with logic behind Aaron Rodgers refusing to reschedule controversial Egypt trip
Former New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman still doesn't understand why Aaron Rodgers skipped minicamp to go to Egypt. Rodgers was not at minicamp, which New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh said was an inexcusable absence.
Rodgers recently opened up on his absence, saying minicamp isn't needed as it used to be. He also feels 100% ready for the start of the NFL season, but Edelman says missing it is still not a good look.
“I’m still not a fan of missing a minicamp. I didn’t like that. I have nothing but the utmost respect for Aaron Rodgers and his ability to play the game. But we all make a lot of good money when we’re playing football. If he can’t reschedule something four days later, I don’t understand the logic behind that," Edelman said on The Herd.
"It’s only making us talk about this right now and they haven’t even had a snap during the year. He hasn’t even played a meaningful snap in two years and we’re talking about all this. All this is doing is creating more distractions. That city? New York? They love that. It’s just making the situation more difficult if things go bad," Edelman added.
Edelman also pointed to his old quarterback Tom Brady as someone who never missed a minicamp, which is why he had so much success in his career.
It was an interesting point from Edelman that Rodgers shouldn't have missed the minicamp as it caused more problems for the team, especially in a media-heavy city like New York.
Aaron Rodgers explains why he missed minicamp
New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers opened up on his decision to miss minicamp. Speaking on Pardon My Take on Barstool Sports, Rodgers said minicamp isn't what it used to be and isn't as important either:
"Now it's not minicamp, they can arbitrarily put a tag on whatever week of OTAs they want. So, this is the minicamp week which makes it somehow more mandatory than the other weeks.
"But it was an OTA schedule, that's how you know words can be a little deceiving from time by time. You can make a story out the fact that I missed a mini-camp when it was really two OTA days. I came to the first 10."
Rodgers is entering his second season as the Jets quarterback. Last season, he tore his Achilles in the first game.
