Justin Fields injury: What happened to Bears QB?

The Chicago Bears were hit with the worst possible news as their starting quarterback Justin Fields was injured and had to leave the field. He was injured in a third-and-four situation midway through the fourth quarter, which caused him to limp to the sidelines before collapsing onto the ground.

He looked to be limping with his right leg and there was speculation that it was a hamstring injury. If it is that serious, it would be the worst news for the Chicago Bears. He then took off to the locker room without waiting to go into the tent, which made it even worse to see. The Chicago Bears' chances of winning against the Philadelphia Eagles was tough anyhow, but any injury to their starting quarterback reduced the odds.

He was replaced by Nathan Peterman. The backup quarterback came back and completed the drive. However, on the next offensive play, Justin Fields thankfully came back on the field and took over the starting duties again. Therefore, it does not look as bad as it was initially feared. He even threw to Byron Pingle for a touchdown to bring the Bears back to one score within the Philadelphia Eagles.

Justin Fields writes his name into the history books before injury

Justin Fields going down injured must have been tough to stomach for the Bears fans. Similarly, they would have been elated once he came back. Not only is he their undisputed starting quarterback, there might not be another player in the league doing what he is doing at the moment.

He became the third quarterback to rush for 1,000 yards in a season after Michael Vick and Lamar Jackson. What that shows is the dual threat Justin Fields brings to the game.

For any other quarterback, especially those who are pure pocket passers, a minor leg injury might not be debilitating. However, any leg injury to Fields means he loses perhaps the most potent arrow that he has in his quiver. That he came back to the field probably meant it wasn't something too serious and maybe it was just cramps instead of a hamstring injury.

If he can play over the next couple of weeks, it will also give Justin Fields the chance to prove himself as the best running quarterback in history. Lamar Jackson in 2019 had 1,206 rushing yards. With three games remaining and Fields already above 1,000 yards, he has the chance to aim for that if he is not hampered by an injury.
