Kadarius Toney trade: Patrick Mahomes reacts to Chiefs acquiring WR from Giants
The Kansas City Chiefs have got Patrick Mahomes another weapon. In a deal that was struck between the Chiefs and the New York Giants, wide receiver Kadarius Toney makes his way to the AFC West franchise.
Kansas City received Toney from New York and sent a conditional third-round pick and a sixth-round pick to the Giants. The 23-year-old explosive receiver has found opportunities hard to come by this season with the Giants and it is hoped that Andy Reid, along with Mahomes, can unlock his potential.
At just 23-years-old, Toney has plenty of upside and it appears that Patrick Mahomes is quite happy with what his front office has done. The Chiefs quarterback took to his Twitter page and posted a GIF of The Rock smiling. Seemingly in approval of the Toney deal.
The Chiefs are currently first in the AFC West and have added yet another player who can take the top off a defense. The last thing the rest of the NFL wanted was Patrick Mahomes getting another weapon.
Well, he has got just that. It will be interesting to see how the move plays out in the coming months.
Can Patrick Mahomes unlock Kadarius Toney's potential?
That certainly is the hope, isn't it? With plenty of time on his side, Kadarius Toney has shown flashes of his talent while with the Giants.
He has only played in two games this season, the opener against the Tennessee Titans where he caught two passes for 23 yards, and in Week 2 against the Carolina Panthers. He had three targets for 0 catches and 0 yards in that game. He hasn't seen the field since.
If a young receiver is looking to revive his stuttering career, then coming to the Chiefs with Andy Reid and what many call the best quarterback in the NFL right now is position A.
With Reid's offensive mind, coupled with Patrick Mahomes' ridiculous arm talent, Toney should see his fair share of targets. Given the amount of weapons already on offense for Kansas City, Toney will not be getting the best or second-best defender most weeks. That will help too.
It is a new receiving group for the Chiefs in 2022. With Juju Smith-Schuster, Skyy Moore, Marquez Valdes-Scantling and now Toney, Kansas City have replaced Tyreek Hill superbly.
They haven't missed Hill either, scoring more than 40 points in three of their eight games. For Toney, it presents a chance to revive his career and there is no better place to do that than in Kansas City.
