Keaton Mitchell injury update vs Jaguars: What happened to Ravens RB?

Running back Keaton Mitchell suffered an injury for the Baltimore Ravens against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday Night Football. The AFC's presumptive top seed were playing well and leading the AFC South leaders 17-7 when Lamar Jackson handed the ball to the running back. He went out wide and picked up the first down but was tackled just as he was looking to escape upfield.

Not only did it stop Keaton Mitchell's momentum, but it also caused his left leg to buckle under him. He immediately fell down and clutched his knee and was in severe pain. He stayed on the field and was helped to his feet by the trainers. Mitchell walked a bit to the sidelines with their help but was then taken out on the cart. As he was wheeled away, he flashed a thumbs-up sign to the spectators, which looked to be a good sign at first.

UPDATE: Mitchell has been ruled out for the rest of the season after tearing his ACL.

Keaton Mitchell ruled out for the season

The Baltimore Ravens did not wait too long to announce that Keaton Mitchell was out for the game. It was reported that he has been taken to the X-Ray room for further evaluation. After the game was over, head coach John Harbaugh said that the running back was most likely done for the season.

It was not a surprise given how far his leg hyperextended on the play. A slow motion of the video is provided below.

Jacksonville Jaguars self-implode against the Baltimore Ravens

Keaton Mitchell was playing very well against the Jaguars prior to his injury. He had picked up 73 yards in nine attempts and it was a big blow to the team. If he is out for any extended period of time, it will be a blow for the Ravens.

But it did not matter much in this game because Jacksonville were their own worst enemy in this matchup. In the first half, they missed two field goals and then when they had a chance to ender into the endzone, Trevor Lawrence ended up fumbling. The score was just 3-0 at the time and it changed the momentum completely.

It looked as if they had changed the narrative in the second half as they got a touchdown to cut the arrears down. But the mistakes kept on happening as their quarterback again made a mistake, dropping the ball as he was strip-sacked by Justin Madubuike.

It also followed another mistake in the first half where the Jaguars missed a chance for a field goal after failing to spike following a big Zay Jones reception.

Lamar Jackson, meanwhile, kept making special plays to keep the Ravens on top, even after Keaton Mitchell was ruled out.
