Keaton Mitchell injury update: Will Ravens RB be available for Week 3 fantasy football?
Baltimore Ravens running back Keaton Mitchell is looking to have an impactful year two with the Baltimore Ravens. After rushing for 3,027 career yards at Eastern Carolina and averaging 6.5 yards per carry, Mitchell was signed by the Ravens as an undrafted free agent following the 2023 NFL Draft.
Mitchell outplayed veteran running back Melvin Gordon in Baltimore's 2023 preseason and earned a spot on the active roster heading into his rookie season. However, he was placed on injured reserve to start the season.
Mitchell made his NFL debut in Week 6 of last season and became a dynamic running back for the Ravens. In eight games including two starts, Mitchell finished his rookie campaign with 396 rushing yards, and two touchdowns while averaging 8.4 yards per carry.
Keaton Mitchell injury update: What happened to Ravens RB?
While Keaton Mitchell was emerging as Baltimore's feature back last season, he would run into some bad luck after his early success. During the Ravens' Week 15 23-7 win against the Jacksonville Jaguars, Mitchell injured his knee after being tackled by Jaguars safety, Andrew Wingard.
It turned out that Mitchell suffered an ACL tear that would force him to sit the rest of the season.
On July 15, 2024, the Ravens placed Mitchell on the PUP (physically unable to perform) list meaning he will miss at least the first four games of the 2024 season. So far, he's missed the Ravens' first two games but provided a positive update on his recovery.
On Monday, Mitchell Tweeted that he can run 20+ mph again.
He tweeted:
"Blessing to see 20+mph again #induetime thank you."
While he will be out of Sunday's game, It sounds as if Keaton Mitchell could be eyeing a return soon. Mitchell's return will add a different kind of running back to the Ravens' backfield and will take some pressure off of Derrick Henry's shoulders.
