Keenan Allen and DJ Moore fire back at HC Matt Eberflus for disastrous last-minute call vs Lions
Matt Eberflus shocked the NFL world on Thursday, and not in a good manner.
The Chicago Bears were already going through a slump in the 2024 season, but their Thanksgiving loss to the was probably the most disappointing of the bunch. Time ran out as they still had a timeout left, leaving all NFL fans watching the game baffled as to how that happened.
However, not even Bears players remain faithful to their coaches. The disappointing way that Chicago lost the game, close to field goal range to tie the 23-20 score, had veteran wide receivers DJ Moore and Keenan Allen speaking clearly about head coach Matt Eberflus and his lack of game-management awareness:
With six straight losses, and his players publicly calling him out, Eberflus' job is even more at risk. Plenty of NFL fans and analysts believed that the Bears should fire him after this game, especially as they'll have a longer time to prepare for their Week 14 contest.
If he's indeed fired and the coaching staff is rebuilt, Chicago will have the opportunity to hire an offensive coach and develop Caleb Williams to his own strengths. Up-and-coming coaches like Ben Johnson (OC, Detroit Lions) and Drew Petzing (OC, Arizona Cardinals) have already been speculated to move to the Bears.
Matt Eberflus' record with the Chicago Bears
During his three years with the franchise, he holds an extremely uninspiring 14-32 record. He has also finished last place in the NFC North during his first two years, and with third-place Green Bay Packers holding a 7-3 record, it's likely he'll do it again.
Their best season was a 7-10 record in 2023, and he never made Chicago a true contender inside a tough division. His failure to hire a strong offensive coordinator also was a problem: new offensive coordinator Shane Waldron did not even last 10 games with the team in 2024.
Their six straight losses included a hail mary from the Washington Commanders to win on the last play of the game and three straight losses by one possession to their division rivals. They fell out of the playoff picture heavily, three games behind the final Wild Card spot with five games to go.
