Kevin Durant heaps high praise on NFL rookie, anoints 40-TD QB as ‘the KD of college football’
NBA star Kevin Durant is a proud native from the DMV area, and he's showing his love and support to the Washington Commanders' rookie quarterback.
Durant, who was born and raised in DC, recently appeared on Kay Adams' show, Up & Adams, and raved about the Commanders' first-round quarterback, Jayden Daniels.
Daniels was drafted second overall in the 2024 NFL Draft, becoming Washington's next franchise quarterback. He shone at LSU this past season, throwing for 40 touchdowns, rushing for over 1,000 yards and scoring 10 touchdowns on the ground.
After the team selected Daniels, Durant sent a text to Magic Johnson, who has ownership of the team, showing his support for the team's pick. After watching Daniels play in college football, Kevin Durant said he was the "KD of college football."
“I might’ve shot a couple texts out there [to Magic Johnson]. I was a fan of the Heisman winner this past year. It feels like he’s the KD of college football last year with his body type. You watch him on TV, it’s easy to watch their team because of how he plays.
"Hopefully, he brings the same enthusiasm for the game to Washington. Everybody’s rallying around him, it feels like we got a player who can take us somewhere now."
The original KD continued:
“I felt like he pops off the screen when you turn on your TV. A guy that size that can move that well at that position. You tend to look at that body frame like a wide receiver or a skill position. But to command an offense and be able to move the ball up the field as a quarterback, that was impressive to see."
NFL QB Jayden Daniels was named the SEC Male Athlete of the Year for the 2023-24 season
Even before beginning his rookie season in the NFL, accolades for Jayden Daniels continue to pile up. This week, Daniels was named the 2023-24 Roy F. Kramer SEC Male Athlete of the Year. He won the award by a vote of the league’s athletics directors and commissioner Greg Sankey.
This was the second year in a row that an LSU athlete was named for the award as Dylan Crews won it previously for leading the Tigers to a national title.
Daniels went 9-3 as LSU's starting quarterback last season while winning the Heisman Trophy. He set a record for the best passer rating in a single season (208.0), scoring 50 total touchdowns (40 passing, 10 rushing.)
The Commanders, who are under new leadership and are rebuilding, will hope Daniels can prove he's a franchise quarterback in his first season in the NFL.
How do you think Daniels will do in his first NFL season?
