Keyshawn Johnson takes issue with Jalen Hurts being left out of NFL's top 10 QBs list
This morning ESPN released their top 10 quarterbacks list heading into the 2024 season and Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts was left off. This comes after Hurts led the Eagles to the playoffs for a third-straight season, and set career-highs in passing yards (3,858) passing touchdowns (23), and rushing touchdowns (15) while leading the Eagles to an 11-6 record.
This morning on Undisputed, Keyshawn Johnson shared his opinion on Hurts being left off the list. The former NFL wideout thinks it's crazy that Hurts is being left off the list, being just two seasons removed from finishing second place in the 2022 MVP voting.
Johnson had some good points and felt strongly that Hurts should have been included, saying:
"Jalen Hurts should be on this list somewhere. Every single year, he has been in the playoffs as a full-time starter. [He] took his team to the Super Bowl was one little mishap away from winning the Super Bowl and beating Patrick Mahomes. They start off at 10-1 with coordinator crazy, offensive a new coordinator, defense two coordinators in one year and then they went on the slide."
"And we act as though Jalen Hurts can't play the position all of a sudden. Jalen Hurts was just the number two quarterback, finished second in MVP. How does he go from that to this? It doesn't work like that... The way that these anonymous executives and coaches... this is why they're anonymous because I'm sure Dak Prescott probably gonna pop them a bunch."
Tua Tagovailoa, Brock Purdy, and Jalen Hurts highlight the 'honorable mention' list by ESPN's top 10 quarterback poll
On every top-five, top-10, or whatever top list there is, there will always be a few surprise candidates that didn't make the list, which is certainly the case with this list.
Some notable names who weren't in the top 10 were listed as 'honorable mentions' including Jalen Hurts, Tua Tagovailoa, Brock Purdy, Jordan Love, and Kirk Cousins.
Here's ESPN's full top 10 QB list:
1. Patrick Mahomes (Chiefs)
2. Joe Burrow (Bengals)
3. Josh Allen (Bills)
4. Lamar Jackson (Ravens)
5. Matthew Stafford (Rams)
6. Justin Herbert (Chargers)
7. C.J. Stroud (Texans)
8. Aaron Rodgers (Jets)
9. Jared Goff (Lions)
10. Dak Prescott (Cowboys)
Purdy had one of the best seasons in the NFL, leading the league in passer rating (113) throwing over 4,200 yards and throwing for 31 touchdowns. Tagovailoa had career-highs across the board and led the league in passing yards with 4,624.
Love threw for over 4,000 yards and 32 touchdowns in his first season as a full-time starter. Cousins led the Minnesota Vikings to a 4-4 record before tearing his Achilles.
