Lamar Jackson reveals why he isn't sweating over constant criticism
Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson has dealt with criticism throughout his NFL career. The Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback is a dual-threat and has improved his play in the passing game the last few seasons.
Critics have questioned whether he will be able to win playoff games and whether he will ever win a Super Bowl. The 27-year-old recently sat down with GQ Magazine for their latest edition and spoke about the constant criticism and pressure that he is under.
"I knew I wanted to be rich and for my people to be well-off,” he said. “I don’t want to be around chaos. I was always goofy, but I always talked about football. My friends were grown-ass men.
"We’re 12 and 13, they were already doing s*** like the older guys. Hell nah. When my old friends got in trouble and I’d see that they got five years, I’m like, ‘What the f***? What the hell he did?’ Robbery. I’m like, ‘I don’t want money that bad. I can wait.’”
Lamar Jackson isn't worried about his critics, as he knows there will always be doubters. He also knows there is one way to silence those critics.
“I gotta prove them wrong and prove me right at the end of the day,” he added.

After earning the award last season, Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson is now a two-time NFL MVP. In 2023, he threw a career-high 3,678 passing yards, carried for 821 yards, scored 24 touchdowns, and rushed for five more. While those statistics helped him lead his team to the AFC Championship game, Jackson isn't pleased.
"I haven't gotten a Super Bowl yet. That's the only thing that bothers me," Jackson told Jeff Zrebiec of The Athletic
The Baltimore Ravens quarterback knows that just being the best quarterback that he can be will allow him to achieve his postseason goals.
Jackson and the Ravens will get their first test of the season on Thursday night in the Week 1 rematch of the AFC Championship game against the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium.
