Lamar Jackson’s trade request gets seal of approval from former Colts star
Lamar Jackson has officially requested a trade from the Baltimore Ravens. After an entire off-season with no traction, the two parties re-engaged in contract talks, with the former MVP officially a free agent.
They've still not made any headway and the situation has gone very poorly for Jackson. As a result, he's asked for a trade. Trade requests are often met with mixed reactions, but one former Indianapolis Colts player believes Jackson made the right choice.
"The right move Lamar," former NFL cornerback Darius Butler wrote on Twitter.
Jackson also took to Twitter to tell his followers and the NFL world that he has officially requested a trade.
"As of March 2nd, I requested a trade from the Ravens organization for which the Ravens have not been interested in meeting my value. Any and everyone that’s met me or been around me knows I love the game of football and my dream is to help a team win the Super Bowl. You all are great but I had to make a business decision that was best for my family and I."
Was a trade request the right idea for Lamar Jackson?
After a brutal run in free agency, in which NFL owners have been accused of colluding against the former MVP and the football world has been shocked by his lack of attention, Lamar Jackson wants out.
He had no leverage in the situation and the Ravens took advantage of that. They placed the non-exclusive franchise tag on him, which they felt would lower his price tag.
This meant if he was given an offer, the Ravens could match that. They were betting that no team would give him what he wanted. They turned out to be correct, but it has cost them their quarterback.
To get some leverage back, Jackson has requested a trade. Now, the Ravens have to either offer him what he wants and hope they can reconcile or send him away. The scales have tipped a little bit towards the quarterback now.
