Lamar Jackson sends warning to Ravens brass in cryptic IG post amid contract standoff
Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson bet on himself this season. When he and the Ravens couldn't negotiate a contract extension before the start of the 2022 season, he decided to play out the remaining year of his contract. He hoped that the franchise would give him the contract extension he was looking for at the end of the campaign.
Jackson suffered a PCL injury to his knee in Week 13 against the Denver Broncos and subsequently missed the remainder of the regular season. He also missed Sunday's Wild Card game against the Cincinnati Bengals. Jackson didn't even make the trip to Cincinnati for the game, which left many asking even more questions about his status with the team.
The Ravens lost to the Bengals in the first round of the playoffs and their season is now over. But where does that leave the 26 year old quarterback and his impending contract negotiations?
Lamar Jackson took to his official Instagram page after the Ravens loss and posted a cryptic quote. It basically said that if you have a good thing, you shouldn't ruin it. Here's what he posted:
“When you have something good, you don’t play with it. You don’t take chances losing it. You don’t neglect it. When you have something good, you pour into it. You appreciate it. Because when you take care of something good, that good thing takes care of you too.” -via @new_era8 on IG
It seems highly likely that Lamar Jackson is referring to his contract negotiations and relationship with the Baltimore Ravens. Since the Ravens season is now over, it's assumed that Jackson and the Ravens will go back to the drawing board and work on a deal for the future. As to whether they will come to an agreement is a separate matter.
Was Marlon Humphries' tweet directed at Lamar Jackson?
After Lamar Jackson's Instagram post, his teammate had an interesting social media post of his own. Ravens cornerback Marlon Humphrey simply tweeted:
"He's Back."
Leaving the Ravens and all NFL fans wondering who exactly the corner is talking about. Was it Jackson? The most common reply to the tweet was understandably "who?"
Unfortunately, Humphrey has not yet gone into further detail.
The Ravens corner did talk to reporters on Sunday evening. He said that the entire team was aware that their quarterback wouldn't be playing in the Wild Card game, stating that he has been limping all week.
This should end the speculation that Lamar Jackson intentionally sat out due to his lack of contract.
