Latest on Kayshon Boutte's arrest: Patriots HC delivers update on WR's future

New England Patriots wide receiver Kayshon Boutte was on the field Monday morning, participating in offseason workouts with his team. This is the first time that Boutte has been back with the team after he was arrested in January on illegal gambling charges.

Questions of whether Boutte will be suspended from the NFL have lingered this offseason. Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo was asked about Boutte's future with the team on Monday.

Mayo said that the organization is in a 'wait and see' mode right now.

“Right now he’s out here. We’ll wait to hear from the league going forward," said Mayo.

Boutte will continue to practice with the New England Patriots until he hears otherwise from the NFL. Boutte was drafted by the Patriots in the sixth round of the 2023 NFL Draft out of LSU. He played five games last season, totaling two catches for 19 yards.

Why was Patriots WR Kayshon Boutte arrested?

In late January 2024, New England Patriots wide receiver Kayshon Boutte was arrested in Louisiana. The former LSU wide receiver was accused of illegal gambling and computer fraud.

Boutte was accused of making over 8,900 wagers on college and NFL games, which included six LSU games he played during his three seasons in Baton Rouge.

The now-22-year-old was under the legal gambling age of 21 when he placed those bets. He was charged with one felony count of computer fraud and one misdemeanor of underage gambling.

The online betting site that he made the wagers on alerted the police when they realized he was underage. Boutte didn't conceal his identity and used his own name as the username. He is accused of placing over $630,000 in wagers and losing $81,000, per The Athletic.

In one of the LSU Tigers games he wagered on, Boutte placed a specific bet on himself and failed to win any money. He bet that he would have at least one touchdown and at least 82.5 yards in September 2022 against Florida State.

The NFL doesn't hesitate to suspend players when it comes to gambling accusations. How the league handles Kayshon Boutte's case remains to be seen.
