LeBron James drops 8-word reaction as Josh Allen scores 4 TDs in 1st half vs Jaguars on MNF
Josh Allen was not set up to be dominant in the 2024 season. He had just lost his favorite targets Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis to the AFC South, and the Buffalo Bills were predicted to be on the downswing after such a massive blow to their wideout room.
Instead, they have continued to rule the AFC East, with their quarterback still playing at a high level. Nowhere was this more apparent than in Monday's game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, where he threw four touchdowns in the first half alone.
NBA superstar LeBron James could only marvel at the performance, saying on X.com:
"I really like watching Josh Allen play football!"
The players who caught those touchdowns were (in chronological order):
- Dalton Kincaid
- Keon Coleman
- Khalil Shakir
- Ty Johnson
James Cook also scored a rushing touchdown on the Bills' first drive.
Josh Allen gives take on Bills’ surprising dominance despite low stats
To understand how surprising Josh Allen and the Bills have been in 2024, here are his stats entering Week 3:
- 371 passing yards (22nd overall)
- 31 completions (23rd overall)
- 16 passing first downs (21st overall)
That puts him in the mid-table - not what is usually expected of the two-time Pro Bowler, but his seeming “game manager” switch has been working to the tune of wins in their first two games.
Speaking during last Wednesday’s practice, Allen reciprocated those thoughts:
“If you’re focused on stats it’s frustrating. In terms of winning football games, it’s not. It’s just whatever helps us move the ball and score when it matters. That’s all we’re caring about right now.”
During a 31-10 win at the Miami Dolphins in Week 2, the offense executed just 45 plays in 23:41 of on-field time. Allen, who had just 139 passing yards in that game, said:
“I think given our situation last week when we’re running it as well as we are and you get the ball in really good field position throughout the entire game, that’s just kind’ve the game it’s gonna be. I don’t know if I’d say weird, but I think it feels pretty good being able to hand the ball off to James (Cook) and Ray (Davis) and let them go do some work. If it’s working, keep calling it.”
He has since returned to his dominant high-scoring duties this week: four touchdowns in the first half alone.
