Lions' Amon-Ra St. Brown names 3 WRs he watches out for, leaves Tyreek Hill out
Amon-Ra St. Brown became one of the highest-paid wide receivers in the NFL this offseason. At the top of the salary rankings, wide receivers often look to each other for inspiration in their games. However, speaking on Tuesday's edition of "Bussin' with the Boys," Amon-Ra St. Brown named a trio of wide receivers he likes to watch tape on.
However, he didn't name the wide receiver with the most yards last season.
"I like to watch Davante Adams, love watching him. Imma go Keenan Allen. Last one, I'm gonna go Justin Jefferson, since he's in our division we play him twice a year. We play the same teams, so we get to see on film a lot of the stuff that they do and he's a lot on the tape, a lot so he’s nice," he said.
Amon-Ra St. Brown's choice to not name Tyreek Hill could be speculated for several reasons. However, two big reasons jump to mind. First, in the heat of the moment, he might have forgotten about Hill off the top of his head. On the other hand, he might believe that the games of Hill and himself are not compatible enough to borrow from Hill.
Comparing Amon-Ra St. Brown's game to Tyreek Hill
Hill is a smaller, faster wide receiver. As such, he will beat his opponents with speed instead of size. Amon-Ra St. Brown, meanwhile, is closer to a route-running possession technician. Meaning, while he definitely has some speed to his game, St. Brown relies on many more tools in the route tree than Hill.
Hill can take a screen pass to the end zone, but he can also beat cornerbacks over the top. That said, his speed is his biggest tool. St. Brown uses a mix of aspects about the position to beat his opponents like Davante Adams, Justin Jefferson and Keenan Allen.
In other words, the Miami Dolphins receiver is a cheat code with an overwhelming quickness that trumps all. The other receivers offer games much more similar to St. Brown, which might make him believe he can take more from their routes and their technique.
St. Brown is coming off the best season of his career, earning 1,515 yards and 10 touchdowns. The Detroit Lions wide receiver has seen a consistent uptick in production year over year, earning 912 yards and five touchdowns as a rookie.
Then, in 2022, he earned 1,161 yards and six touchdowns. If Brown has another similar multi-hundred-yardage jump this season, he is set to be in the running to lead the NFL in receiving yards in 2024. Will St. Brown reach new heights or hit a plateau this season?
