Lions HC Dan Campbell delivers crucial Jahmyr Gibbs injury update

Detroit Lions coach Dan Campbell has given a crucial update on running back Jahmyr Gibbs. The former first-round pick suffered a hamstring injury during practice.

Gibbs was a surprise pick by the Lions in the 2023 NFL draft, but he ended up having a solid rookie season. Entering 2024, Gibbs is expected to be a big part of the Lions roster, but he suffered a hamstring injury in training camp.

However, Campbell says that Gibbs is fine and the injury isn't a concern.

“I think we’re gonna be fine here. So, I think we’ll be good," Campbell said about Gibbs.

Gibbs has a history of hamstring issues and missed time last season with a similar injury.

Gibbs finished last season rushing for 945 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns, and he added 316 receiving yards and a receiving touchdown.

Lions living off of hard work in 2024

The Detroit Lions were a surprise team in 2023 and made it to the NFC Championship Game.

Entering 2024, there are more expectations that the Lions will be a Super Bowl contender this season. However, just because more people are buying the hype around the Lions, Coach Campbell says the team still needs to work hard.

“We don’t live off reputation, we live off of work,’’ Campbell said, via LionsLowdown. “That’s what’s gotten us where we’re at, it’s been a long hard road to get to where we’re at right now. There’s a price to be paid so we’ve got to pay it again. That’s the message that will always be the message.’’

The Lions went 12-5 last season and are the favorites to win the NFC North, and they have the fourth-best odds of winning the Super Bowl. Wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown says this is the first year everyone believes Detroit can win it all.

“Each year you get into that meeting room the first day, it’s like: What do you want to accomplish with the team? I can truthfully say this year it’s not even playoffs, it’s not No. 1 seed. It’s the Super Bowl and that’s for everybody in the room,’’ wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown said.
“And it’s the first year I feel like truly as a team we all feel the same way. We all want to win the Super Bowl, we know we can win the Super Bowl, we’ve got the team, we’ve got the coaches, we have everything in this building we need to win a Super Bowl. That’s our goal, that’s our focus and everything we do from here on moving forward to get there.’’

The Lions will open their 2024 season at home on Sept. 8 against the Los Angeles Rams.
