Lions HC Dan Campbell gives witty response to former New Jersey governor Chris Christie calling him "classless"
Dan Campbell has led the Detroit Lions to a 5-1 start this season and are on a 4-game winning streak. However, one of their wins has irked one politician.
The former governor of New Jersey, Chris Christie, slammed the Detroit Lions coach after his favorite team, the Dallas Cowboys, was humiliated by them in a 47-9 blowout loss in Week 6.
"That's Dan Campbell. He's got no class, never has," Christie lashed out on the "Mad Dog Unleashed" radio show with Chris Russo last Thursday. "So, it's fine. Look, Dan Campbell, that's the way he is, and what goes around comes around."
Christie was hurt by the fact that his team had been handed such a crushing defeat especially after the Lions seemed to mock them when they let one of their O-linemen attempt a touchdown which almost succeeded. That was on their owner, Jerry Jones' birthday.
When asked about the former governor's jibe on Monday, Dan Campbell gave this response:
"The last time someone called me classless, I was drinking wine out of a bottle."
When asked which wine he was sipping, he said it was red.
The Lions will be taking on the Tennessee Titans in the upcoming week. The Titans currently have a 1-5 record and are a two-game losing streak. The odds seem to be in favor of the Lions, but this victory will come without star defensive end Aidan Hutchinson.
Dan Campbell gets emotional speaking about Aidan Hutchinson
Aidan Hutchinson made Lions fans' hearts skip a beat when he suffered a gruesome injury against the Cowboys which showed his leg almost snapping. The injury was so horrific that FOX, which was broadcasting the game, refused to show a replay of the play.
After examination, it was discovered that he had broken both his fibula and tibia and would probably not return during the current season. Speaking to the media about Hutchinson's injury last week,
"That's tough. You know, it was tough. And he's in good hands right now, he's being taken care of. He'll stay back here (in Dallas). You know, obviously he's going to be down for a while. So that's tough, man. It's hard when you lose somebody like him. But we'll know a lot more after this and obviously wish him the best."
Hutchinson leads the team with 7.5 sacks, seven tackles for loss, and 17 QB hits this season. But Dan Campbell and the Lions got the 31-29 win over the Minnesota Vikings in Week 7 in their first game without Hutchinson.
