Lions HC Dan Campbell makes feelings known on Jahmyr Gibbs accidentally leaking Detriot's play calls
Jahmyr Gibbs accidentally leaking potential Detroit Lions' play calls became a moment of leadership gold for coach Dan Campbell.
Campbell and Gibbs, a dynamic second-year running back, found themselves navigating an unexpected media storm. The incident centered on social media photo supposedly exposing the team's playbook details.
Campbell commented on the leak Tuesday during his appearance on the 97.1 The Ticket podcast. The leak had been circulating since the Lions' Thanksgiving victory over the Bears.
"I don't really give a crap. I mean, if we're gonna lose because of code words, then we're not good enough anyway. I think we'll just post the whole freaking playbook out there and every code word we've got. It doesn't matter. It's not gonna hurt us, it won't affect us," said Campbell.
The controversy began when Gibbs posted a photo of teammate Jermar Jefferson. In the background, a whiteboard with dropback protection calls became visible. The image spread rapidly across social media platforms.
Jefferson downplayed concerns Sunday, stating the play calls "change up every week."
Former NFL offensive lineman David Bakhtiari offered a more nuanced view. "Yikes. This is very damning," he shared Sunday. The retired star highlighted the sensitivity of code words used at the line of scrimmage.
Sources close to the team suggested the coaching staff was more disappointed than angry. Campbell doubled down on his nonchalant approach, adding more context to his initial statement.
"No, there's not [any secret]. It's all out there and you can find any and everything that you need on the tape, how to attack people, how they're going to attack you."
He even joked about disciplining Gibbs, saying:
"Yes, because he got on social media, I'm not going to play him anymore."
Detroit's ability to brush off potential distractions speaks volumes about the team's mental fortitude this season.
