Lions’ Jahmyr Gibbs explains why he’d be ‘so sick’ if he landed with Dallas Cowboys

The Detroit Lions selected running back Jahmyr Gibbs as the 12th overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. Gibbs has emerged as one of the most explosive backs and is part of arguably the best RB duo in the NFL alongside David Montgomery.

In an appearance on the "Up & Adams Show" on Thursday, Gibbs and host Kay Adams discussed playing in the frigid weather this weekend, when the Chicago Bears meet the Lions. Gibbs represents a city (Detroit) that experiences harsh football weather at this time of year, but plays in a dome.

When talking about playing in cold weather, Gibbs said spoke about what it would be like if Dallas selected him and if he was a Cowboys, preparing for a game like Sunday's.

"When I was in the draft process, I said, I didn't want to go to a team up north, that's the only thing I said," Gibbs said. "But I'm happy I came here [Detroit] though. The Cowboys wanted to get me too at 24. I was like, imagine if I were a Cowboy right now, I'd be so sick."

The Cowboys stayed still in the 2023 NFL Draft, selecting DT Mazi Smith from Michigan at No. 26. In 31 games over the last two seasons, Smith has 46 tackles and 1.5 sacks. Despite being an interior defensive lineman, many believe he is underperforming and has failed to live up to his first-round draft status.

Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery might be the best one-two-punch backfield in the NFL today. In 14 games played, they have combined 1,822 rushing yards and 23 rushing touchdowns on the season. They also have 736 receiving yards and three receiving touchdowns combined.

Montgomery is expected to miss some time and potentially the rest of the season with an MCL injury. The team, however, is awaiting a third option and has yet to officially place Montgomery on injured reserve.

If Montgomery is placed on injured reserve, the backfield will rely on Gibbs, who is already the team's top option at running back.

No other Lions star has more than 60 rushing yards this season as quarterback Jared Goff is third on the team. Losing Montgomery will be a big hit for Detroit, but they are hopeful they can get him back in time for their playoff run at some point.
