Mac Jones' former teammate addresses reports of friction between Patriots QB and Bill Belichick

Over the last few weeks, various reports of friction between Mac Jones and Bill Belichick have surfaced. In reaction to the reports, many have speculated about the team starting over at the position. However, speaking on Good Morning Football, former Patriots safety Devin McCourty threw water on the reports.

Here's how he put it:

"They know the future is Mac Jones... I don't care who he trips out there, he wants to win. And I think that's what it's about... Did he rub somebody's wrong way in a meeting? Probably [at one point or another]..."

Will Mac Jones and Bill Belichick be on the same team in 2023?

He continued, explaining that his blunt intensity was endorsed by Bill Belichick:

"Mac came into a leadership role as a quarterback and he speaks to what he thinks about. 'I don't like this play. I want to do this play.' I think what people don't always understand [is that] Bill pushes that."

The quarterback of the New England Patriots is entering his third year in the league. Some continue to believe that his time with the team could effectively be up. Others believe that he could have another season to go before burning any bridges with the team. Either way, most believe that if the quarterback continues to perform at his current level, the team will have no choice but to keep him.

In his rookie season, he showed plenty of promise to most fans and drew comparisons to Tom Brady. In 17 games of action, he went 10-7 and reached the playoffs while throwing for 22 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. That said, 2022 was a different story.

The quarterback went 6-8 and threw for 14 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. In other words, he took a big step back in terms of production. In response, the offense has already seen one big change, with the team bringing in Bill O'Brien to coordinate the offense. Will the team make a change at quarterback as well?
