Matt LaFleur addresses Aaron Rodgers playing on despite broken thumb: "Potentially could be a big deal"
Aaron Rodgers is arguably having the worst season of his professional career, and the Green Bay Packers are expected to miss the playoffs this season.
Rodgers is playing with a broken thumb, which has undoubtedly impacted the Packers' quarterback's play on the field. The Green Bay Packers are currently 4-7, and things aren't looking good.
Before Sunday Night's game against the Philadelphia Eagles, Packers head coach Matt LaFleur spoke about Rodgers' thumb injury. Here's what he said:
"I mean, Aaron's one of the toughest guys I've ever been around in terms of just being able to battle through multiple injuries so that never crossed my mind."
LaFleur continued:
"It's more or less the conversation in terms of how he communicates with us and where he's at. And certainly, I know he told you guys, he's played through a lot worse. So ya know, he's just, he's, he's old school tough."
He added:
"I can't get inside his body and tell you exactly how it feels. But yeah, I think it potentially could be a big deal. But like I said, He's as tough as they come and he's gonna fight through it."
Aaron Rodgers has a passer rating of 93.2 with 2,542 yards, 19 touchdowns, and seven interceptions in 11 games this season. These numbers are pretty poor, considering the standards of the Green Bay Packers quarterback.
The Packers will face the Philadelphia Eagles next, and it will be a very tough game. The Eagles have the best record in the NFL, and Aaron Rodgers needs to be at his best if the Packers want to come away with a win.
Should the Packers continue with Aaron Rodgers this season?
Another loss for the Packers would undoubtedly end their playoff hopes. If Aaron Rodgers struggles against the Eagles on Sunday, the Packers should not hesitate in giving backup quarterback Jordan Love some opportunities.
Although the organization is paying Rodgers a handsome amount, this would be the right time for them to analyze Jordan Love. If they think Love is the guy to carry the job forward from Rodgers, this test will clear it out.
If Jordan Love also doesn't perform well, the Packers need to get a new quarterback in next year's draft. Nobody knows whether or not Aaron Rodgers will continue after this season, and due to that, the Packers need to be clever in handling their future.
