Matt Milano Injury Update: Bills LB status for game against Jets on SNF

Buffalo Bills linebacker Matt Milano suffered a knee injury early in last Sunday's game against AFC East rivals New England Patriots. Milano didn't practice earlier this week and his status for the upcoming game against the New York Jets is unknown.

Bills head coach Sean McDermott was on the WGR 550 radio show on Friday morning. During his weekly appearance, he spoke out about the linebacker and his injury.

McDermott said that Milano was practising on Friday and the team would evaluate his progress leading up to Sunday. McDermott said that he hasn't completely ruled the Bills linebacker out as of yet and they will just see how the next few days go.

McDermott also went on to say that all players who are active and dressed on game day are likely to play. Activating a player who can't play just hurts the depth chart on game day.

“Whether you’ve got a younger player or an older player, in a different case and how long they’ve been around the system, as you mentioned specifically with Matt, it’s just a difficult deal because then you can only dress so many players.”

With the appearance of the Bills linebacker at practice on Friday morning and McDermott's current thought process, it appears that the linebacker's availability will be a game-time decision.

With Von Miller already suffering a season-ending torn ACL, ensuring Milano is on the field against the Jets will be integral.

How long has LB Matt Milano played in the NFL?

Matt Milano played four years at Boston College before declaring for the NFL Draft. He was drafted by the Buffalo Bills in the fifth round of the 2017 NFL Draft. He played in all 16 games in his rookie season, starting five games in total.

Before the start of the 2021 NFL season, he signed a four-year extension worth $44 million.

In his first five seasons with the Buffalo Bills, he played in 70 games, starting 54 of those. He has 359 combined tackles, 241 solo tackles, nine sacks, five interceptions, and seven fumble recoveries.

Now in his sixth NFL season, Matt Milano has started 11 games this campaign. He has one sack, two interceptions, 43 solo tackles, and 25 combined tackles. His impact on the defense is great and will be needed when facing a New York Jets team that is still technically in the playoff bubble.
