Matthew Judon calls out Patriots for not utilizing $40,000,000 cap space amid contract debacle - "What the hell are y'all doing with it?"

Matthew Judon is extremely unhappy about his situation with the New England Patriots. The EDGE defender is looking for a new deal with the team and has stopped practicing during camp as he looks to put the pen to paper. He also had a weird moment with coach Jerod Mayo during Monday's practice.

As soon as Judon's video came out, a lot of people remembered what he said about the business of football during a podcast appearance this offseason. The EDGE defender spoke about the Patriots' salary cap, which Spotrac has at just over $40 million, and how he was unhappy with the way New England was using its cap space:

"I love football. I don't love the business of football. Like I said, I don't want to be the villain. I don't want to be the bad guy, but it's like 'Shoot bro, help me out.' We got the most cap in the league right now. They don't even get the money.
"So what the hell are y'all doing with it? You're literally just not using it. Those guys have a tough decision. It's hard for them. It's hard to know who to give money to, when to give the money to... It's a lot of stuff that go along with that. But I wrote out my own contract, and sent it to them."

After spending the first part of his career with the Baltimore Ravens, Matthew Judon signed a four-year, $56 million contract with the Patriots in the 2021 offseason. He looks to sign a new deal with the team in order to secure his future.

What was the injury suffered by Matthew Judon in the 2023 season?

One of the reasons that the New England Patriots are wary of spending on him is the fact that Matthew Judon coming back from a serious injury. He suffered a torn lower bicep in Week 4 of the 2023 season and missed the remainder of the year, just like fellow defender Christian Gonzalez.

However, Judon still finished the season with four sacks in three and a half games. He was extremely important in a team that missed stars all year long, so keeping him would be a smart thing to do.
