Matthew Stafford's wife Kelly left infuriated at NFL's concussion protocols with Rams QB still suffering
Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford missed the last game against the Kansas City Chiefs due to a strained neck and two recent trips to the concussion protocol. He has no timetable for a return.
Stafford's wife Kelly recently spoke about her husband's injury while bashing the NFL's concussion protocol.
Kelly said:
"He looked at me and said, ‘If I'm healthy enough to go, the players rely on me. My teammates, the coach, the owner, everyone relies on me and I have to earn the paycheck. I was paid to play. I wasn't paid to sit.'"
"My thing is again, the head slamming on the turf. That is where the push needs to be…My take is, ‘How are you not pushing this when you know concussions are a problem?' It's an easy fix."
Kelly added that Matt is always at risk when playing football but wishes the NFL had better working conditions, referring to playing on grass instead of turf.
Kelly added:
"He's always going to be at risk when he plays this game, and I know they ‘sign up for it.' But if you can make better working conditions for your employees, why not do it?"
Matthew Stafford could be shut down for the remainder of the season
With the injuries he's working through, it isn't out of the picture for the Los Angeles Rams to shut Matthew Stafford down for the rest of the season.
With Cooper Kupp and Stafford's injuries not having a timetable, a source told ESPN that they are in no rush to get the stars back on the field. This means they could miss the rest of the season.
The Rams are currently in last place in the NFC West with a 3-9 record. Even if they win the rest of their games this season, they will be 8-9 with a near-impossible chance of making the playoffs.
During the past offseason, the Rams extended Stafford for four more years, giving him $160 million more. With his age and injuries piling up, it seems like the deal may have been premature.
