Matthew Stafford’s wife Kelly says ‘it sucks’ that kids prefer dad over mom when in trouble
Daughters often tend to favor their fathers over their mothers, and that's the case for Matthew Stafford's daughters. The kids prefer talking to Matthew over their mother Kelly especially when they are in trouble. Kelly recently expressed how that feeling 'sucks.'
In Thursday's episode of "The Morning After podcast," Matthew Stafford made an appearance alongside Kelly. During the episode, the Rams quarterback recalled his first-ever visit to his daughter's school after being called to the principal's office for a prank she did.
Matthew Stafford explained the exact moment Kelly learned about the principal's call and how his daughter was hesitant to talk to her mother about it. Reflecting on this, Kelly expressed how sad she was about the fact that their daughters feel more comfortable discussing issues with Matthew over her.
"Matthew's holding her, and he's like, 'Okay, you can tell her,' and then she won't tell me. He's like, 'Do you want me to tell her?' and she's like, 'Yeah', which makes me feel horrible that she can't even tell me what's going on. One, it sucks," Kelly said. (11:25)
"But two, I'm like, 'you're right here. Thank God I have a partner who they feel very comfortable with. But when you told me she went to the principal today and my mind was like 'oh fu*k'," Kelly said.
Matthew Stafford recalled daughter’s hilarious school prank that led to QB’s first visit to the principal’s office
Matthew Stafford said that he was having a regular checking-in conversation with his daughter, which took a turn when she talked about being called to the principal's office. The quarterback recalled how his daughter cried for 5 minutes before she said:
"'Me and my friend weren't in class. I was at lunch.’ I was like ‘okay’. Now I'm thinking we're throwing food or something. I was like ‘okay well what happened at lunch?’ She was like ‘well we were in the bathroom at lunch and we got told on me and this other girl were in there. I was ‘like, oh boy.’ Okay. I don't know what to expect." (7:38)
“Long story short, she and her friend were in the stalls, locking the stalls and then crawling out so that if you had to go to the bathroom and you were a girl, you had to crawl in and unlock it from the inside. And I'm kind of a little proud, you know. Pretty good prank. But I was like, ‘Oh, can't do that,’" Matthew concluded.
Moving forward, Kelly explained how her daughter learned her lesson and promised to not repeat the same mistake again. The revelation of the couple's visit to the principal's office came almost a day after their daughters wore Matthew's #9 Rams jersey number for 'Jersey Day' at school.
