Mecole Hardman reveals DeAndre Hopkins giving up before Chiefs' narrow win over Broncos

DeAndre Hopkins may soon be under the Kansas City Chiefs fans' crosshair. He seemingly did not have faith in the team's ability to pull through and emerge victorious even in the most dire of conditions.

KC was leading the Broncos 16-14, but in the final moments of the game, the Broncos were able to get in range for a field goal. The Chiefs thought the game was lost. Wil Lutz, the Denver Broncos' kicker, had not missed even one field goal or extra point in the entire 2024 season.

In a moment of despair, Chiefs wideout Mecole Hardman revealed that Hopkins, who played his third game as a Chief, had given up before the game against the Broncos was over.

"I was talking to D-Hop and he's like, 'Man, it's game over.' I'm like, 'No, I think I've seen some crazier things. We just got to just see what happens.' And I'm so and obviously, the block happened."

We know how the game unfolded. In the final second of the game, the Chiefs linemen managed to block Lutz's kick. This resulted in the Chiefs managing to keep alive their 9-game winning streak while the Broncos tasted a close and bitter defeat.

Did DeAndre Hopkins troll his former team during Bucs game?

After he failed to score a touchdown in his first game with the Chiefs, Hopkins recorded two during the game against the Tampa Bay Buccanneers. Celebrating his first touchdown, he performed a dance from probably the most famous football movie of all time, "Remember the Titans."

Many fans assumed that he was getting back at his former team, the Tenessee Titans, for trading him away to the Chiefs. However, he took to X to clear the air and state that it was anything but a jibe at his former team.

"It was a shoutout to Tennessee," Hopkins tweeted on Tuesday over an ESPN post with his celebration.

DeAndre Hopkins explained that if anything, it was a shoutout to his team. Why? He was grateful to the Titans because if it weren't for them, he would be in Kansas City, playing for the reigning Super Bowl champions.

"Ran [Carthon] and his crew are like family. Without them, I wouldn't be here."

In the Broncos game, however, the wideout failed to record a touchdown. But DeAndre Hopkins will get his chance soon enough when the Chiefs take on the Bills in one of the NFL's most famous rivalries.
