Mel Kiper's NFL mock draft: Where will Alabama QB Bryce Young land?
Bryce Young is one of the top prospects ahead of the 2023 NFL Draft following an outstanding college football career with the Alabama Crimson Tide. The draft class this year is expected to be loaded at the quarterback position, with four quarterbacks projected to possibly go within the first ten picks.
CJ Stroud of the Ohio State Buckeyes, Will Levis of the Kentucky Wildcats, and Anthony Richardson of the Florida Gators join Bryce Young at the top of the elite quarterback class. While each has a case for being the best player available this year, NFL Draft expert Mel Kiper believes that Young is a bit better than the rest. He expects Young to be the top selection in the 2023 NFL Draft.
Here's what Kiper had to say about Young in his most recent mock draft:
“On the field, Young doesn’t have many flaws. The 2021 Heisman Trophy winner has outstanding pocket presence and is an amazing processor, always a step ahead of where to go with the football. If everything checks out at the combine, I think he’s going to be the top player off the board, no matter the team.”
Kiper pointed out that he believes Bryce Young will end up being the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, but which team selects him is yet to be determined. In his most recent mock draft, he predicted that the Houston Texans will move up one spot to make sure that they are able to lock up the Alabama superstar.
The Chicago Bears currently hold the top selection in the draft this year, but many around the NFL believe they will trade it out after Justin Fields flashed superstar potential during the 2022 NFL season. Several teams, including the Indianapolis Colts and Carolina Panthers, will likely be interested in moving up, so if the Texans want Young, he may not be available for them in the second slot.
Bryce Young's incredible college football career at Alabama
Bryce Young spent his first season in Alabama as a backup for Mac Jones in 2020. The team went on to win the College Football Playoff National Championship, earning Jones a selection in the 2021 NFL Draft. Young was then named the starting quarterback for the 2021 college football season and immediately impressed at the position.
Young was outstanding during the 2021 season on his way to winning the Heisman Trophy. He is the first Alabama quarterback to ever win the award. In two years as a starter, he put together an incredible 23-4 overall record with 87 total touchdowns and 12 interceptions.
