Miami-Dade police tighten security at Hard Rock Stadium after Tyreek Hill's detainment incident: report
Tyreek Hill and the Miami Dolphins return to the field tonight against AFC East rivals, the Buffalo Bills. Following a tumultuous season opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars, the Floridians are keen to go 2-0 for the 2024 NFL season against a direct opponent for the division.
It seems like there will be extra attention on this game. An internal police memo sent to Miami-Dade police departments talked about an increase in threatening language against police officers after Tyreek Hill's detainment on Sunday.
As the Dolphins and Bills take on the field Thursday, the police will work inside, outside and near the Hard Rock Stadium, Armando Salguero of Outkick reports.
This memo suggests the "need for ongoing monitoring of open-source platforms to identify credible threats and evaluate their severity."
It requires officers to remain alert of the online environment, as they read violent messages directed at law enforcement agents.
Messages saying that dead cops are the only good ones or people saying the ones who detained Hill should get shot were reportedly seen on social media.
What happened to Tyreek Hill before the Dolphins-Jaguars game?
One of the biggest stories on and off the field was the situation Tyreek Hill was in before the start of the game. As he made his way to the stadium, Hill was pulled over just outside the venue. The situation got heated and Hill exchanged words with MDPD officer Danny Torres.
He was detained by police officers who put him in handcuffs. Hill's teammates Calais Campbell and Jonnu Smith were also involved in this incident. This prompted the Dolphins to release a statement condemning this behavior by the police.
Tyreek Hill appeared on different platforms to talk about this incident, including CNN and NBC. It seems like the video showing the entire incident and his words brought a lot of attention to this matter.
Even after that incident, he suited up for the Dolphins, putting on a show for his fans. He got seven receptions from Tua Tagovailoa, recording 130 yards, which included an 80-yard touchdown that finished with a viral celebration of him simulating being handcuffed.
Hill proved last season that he's a menace on the field and he's trying to be even better this campaign. The Dolphins have a lot at stake in 2024 and if they fail to go deep in the playoffs, it'd be time to consider some serious changes.
