“I was very afraid” – Michael Irvin came face-to-face with terrifying robbery attempt before carjackers recognized Cowboys legend

Former Dallas Cowboys Hall of Fame wide receiver Michael Irvin has had many scary moments in the NFL, getting hit, recovering from injuries, and suffering losses.

He experienced another scary situation off the field as he almost got carjacked by some guys in 2009.

Via NBC DFW, Irvin recalled a time when he was afraid and saw a black truck following him, but once the thieves realized it was the Cowboys legend, they stopped and idolized him.

Irvin said:

"Absolutely, I was afraid. I was very afraid. I was looking in my rear view, and I saw this black truck flying up behind me. He put it [gun] away, because he recognized me. He said, 'Hey, Mike Irvin, what's up? Mike Irvin, man, we are big Cowboy fans."
"And I was like, 'Yeah man, you know, I miss playing, and boy, I'm sorry we couldn't win a Super Bowl this year,' because I'm just trying to get his mind on something else so he doesn't pull that gun back up again."

Irvin added:

"I was like, 'Wow, you were a coward there, Michael. Even when he pulled off, I still did not get that license plate. 'I'm a huge Cowboy fan'—it never sounded so sweet before like it did last night, even coming from him."

If it weren't for Irvin being an iconic star in the Big D, he could have ended up in a bad situation.

Irvin was Dallas' first-round pick in the 1988 draft and played 12 seasons with the team. He ended his NFL career with 750 receptions, 11,904 yards, and 65 touchdowns. He was a three-time Super Bowl champion, a first-team All-Pro in 1991, a two-time second-team All-Pro, and a five-time Pro Bowler.

He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in his third year of eligibility on February 3, 2007.

Irvin is arguably the greatest receiver in Cowboys history and remains an iconic Dallas star.
