Mike Florio opens door for Aaron Rodgers to join Bill Belichick in New England

Aaron Rodgers is embarking on another offseason filled with questions about his future. Will he continue to play? Will he continue to play for the Green Bay Packers? Do the Packers want to keep him around?

At the same time, the New England Patriots are facing their own questions with quarterback Mac Jones.

According to Mike Florio, a path that places Rodgers in the clutches of the coach of his one-time biggest rival, Tom Brady, is available. In an article posted on Pro Football Talk, here's how Florio explained his reasoning:

"If Mac Jones is out, could Rodgers be in? A pairing of Rodgers with Bill Belichick would be fascinating. The real question is whether the Patriots would have enough around Rodgers to make it work for both player and team."

Aaron Rodgers finished 8-9 this season and missed the playoffs for the first time when playing in every game since 2008. He also threw for what was the fewest number of touchdowns he has managed in a season since 2019 (25).

Meanwhile, quarterback Mac Jones also took a step back this season.

Is Mac Jones done in New England?

Much like Aaron Rodgers, Mac Jones found himself in the playoff bubble in Week 18 and, like Rodgers, he left the regular season without a seed in the postseason.

For a franchise as proud as the Patriots, many are speculating about how much patience they're going to show for Jones after two seasons and zero playoff wins.

In 2021, Jones threw for 22 touchdowns and 13 interceptions, going 10-7. This season, the Patriots' first-round quarterback threw for 14 touchdowns and 11 interceptions and went 6-8.

There was a moment somewhat early this season when his job security was put into question thanks to Bailey Zappe. However, Jones eventually took over once again.

With the season now concluded for the Patriots, his job security is once again on the line.
