Mike Florio reveals what ruined Patrick Mahomes Super Bowl against Tom Brady

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes will make his third Super Bowl start in just four seasons. In the 2019 season, Mahomes led the Chiefs to their first Super Bowl in 50 years as they beat the San Francisco 49ers, before suffering a heavy defeat against the Tampa Bay Bucaneers the following year.

Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio recently highlighted a key event that cost the Chiefs a win in Super Bowl LV against the Tom Brady-led Bucs in the 2020 NFL season.

Florio said that the aspect that gets so overlooked is the fact that the Kansas City Chiefs didn't fly down to Tampa until right before the big game. He said that they spent less than 48 hours in town before kickoff and he believes that is what threw them off their plans and cost them dearly.

This was all due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic at the time. Of course, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers didn't have to worry about that because they were the host city.

"That gets overlooked, night before they flew to town. Pandemic they flew in Friday for the Sunday game, and that whole dynamic had to have thrown a huge wrench into everything." Mike Florio said on PFT.

In a typical year, the teams travel to the Super Bowl hosting city a week ahead of the big game. They get acclumated to the weather and possible time changes days in advance. For Super Bowl LVII, both the Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles arrived in Arizona last Sunday.

Many have blamed injuries at the time — to Mahomes and several others in the Chiefs' offensive unit — for the 31-9 loss to the Bucs. However, Florio believes that Mahomes and the Chiefs not getting the full Super Bowl experience was to blame for the loss.

Brandon Marshall pranks Patrick Mahomes with Rihanna quote

Patrick Mahomes on Wednesday took questions from the media ahead of Super Bowl LVII this weekend. Former NFL wide receiver Brandon Marshall told Mahomes that Super Bowl halftime performer Rihanna said that he was the best quarterback in the NFL and then asked how he felt about that.

The Chiefs quarterback said that it made him feel great and that he was excited about her performance.

"It makes me feel great. She's gonna crush it at halftime," he said. "I have family members that I think are more excited about the halftime show than they are the game. And so whatever Rihanna says is like the gospel, so I'm glad that she went with me for that honor."
"I can't believe you got me with that!" 😂

Marshall then waited a second and informed the Chiefs quarterback that he was just joking and that Rihanna hadn't said that. He then laughed about the moment and told Marshall that he 'got him'.
