Mike Florio slams NFL for not ejecting Trent Williams or Deshaun Watson after getting aggressive in primetime

Trent Williams and Deshaun Watson both got into scuffles this week. On Monday night football and on Thursday night football, there were scuffles that didn't end in ejections.

Speaking on Pro Football Talk, NFL analyst Mike Florio took umbrage at the league not setting its foot down. Here's how he put it:

"You're supposed to get ejected for punching someone. They've got this 'great' procedure. We've seen it fail twice this week. Monday night when Deshaun Watson shoved an official away from him as the official was trying to [stop a] potential fight with basically the entire Steelers sideline. The league office did not tell the referee, 'eject [Watson].'"

He continued, laying out the NFL's reasoning and condemning it:

"We saw it again last night... [The NFL's explanation] is they didn't see the punch clearly enough they couldn't tell with 100% certainty there was a punch. What more do you need? Does it need to be like Rock'em Sock'em Robots where you punch them in the right spot and his head flies up five feet?"

The San Francisco 49ers and the New York Giants are the first two teams to play three NFL games this season.

So far, the results could not be much more different. The 49ers have now blown out the Pittsburgh Steelers 30-7, defeated the Los Angeles Rams in Matthew Stafford's own building 30-23, and now coasted through the New York Giants by a score of 30-12.

Brock Purdy now gets to enjoy a mini-bye week as their next game takes place on Sunday, October 1st, against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 4.

Meanwhile, the New York Giants are 1-2 and easily could have been 0-3. Daniel Jones has been blown out in three straight games. The team's lone win came after rallying against the Kyler Murray-less Arizona Cardinals after falling behind 20-0.

After winning a playoff game and a big new contract to boot, the Giants quarterback appears to have slumped back down to the doldrums.
