Mike McCarthy prepares Cowboys for the worst as CeeDee Lamb's holdout drags on
How will the Dallas Cowboys fare if CeeDee Lamb continues to hold out? Mike McCarthy is hopeful that he is preparing the team for success this season, even without one of his best offensive players. On Tuesday afternoon, the Cowboys head coach spoke to reporters, and of course he was asked about the absence of CeeDee Lamb.
The 25-year old wide receiver hasn't reported to training camp this summer as he awaits a contract extension. McCarthy said that he and the coaching staff have a plan if the holdout should continue into the regular season.
“I think just like anything, you have to have a plan. It’s something we reconvene every single night, first as a staff and more so myself and the coordinators."-said Mike McCarthy
McCarthy continued by saying that he has a plan to ensure his other receivers are ready. It will be a welcome relief if and when CeeDee Lamb does return, but until then, the Cowboys will continue to prepare without him to ensure that the team is ready for the regular season.
“We have a plan for the work each and every day, and we make those adjustments accordingly. When CeeDee does come back, we’ll adjust and make sure that we’re ready to go. Right now, we’re preparing the other guys.”-said McCarthy
The Dallas Cowboys will kick off the 2024 NFL season with a road game against the Cleveland Browns.
NFL Insider believes CeeDee Lamb and Cowboys aren't that far from a new contract
It's fair to say that wide receiver CeeDee Lamb is the Dallas Cowboys top offensive asset. He is a favorite target for quarterback Dak Prescott and when he decided to hold out until he got a new contract, fans hoped it would be resolved quickly. However, the third and final preseason game is just days away and the regular season won't be far behind that.
ESPN's NFL Insider Adam Schefter believes the wide receiver and the Cowboys aren't that far apart in negotiations. He said that he and other insiders believe Lamb will be on the field for Week 1 against the Browns.
"I and others believe that CeeDee Lamb will be with the Dallas Cowboys for week one......I think they find a way to figure out a deal."
Schefter also said that while the Dallas Cowboys could get the star wide receiver back, the team will have to manage his workload, because he missed the entirety of training camp.
