“Mismanagement to the highest degree”: Insider calls out Jerry Jones, Cowboys' handling of Dak Prescott’s contract extension
Dak Prescott is the Cowboys' franchise quarterback, but he is in the final year of his contract. This situation has raised some eyebrows, and now one Cowboys insider has issued a critical evaluation of Jerry Jones and the whole front office.
In 2021, the Dallas Cowboys signed Dak Prescott to a four-year deal worth $160 million. And he has been the QB1 for the Cowboys in all his pro years. With each day passing away, Prescott hasn’t signed a new deal with the team. This has frustrated RJ Ochoa, who aired his grievances on the ‘Kay Adams Show’ on Wednesday.
“With regards to Dak specifically at every turn here since 2019, since they've had the opportunity to take care of him. They have fumbled this, they have bungled it. They have gone about it incredibly inefficiently and made Dak a very wealthy person and good for him," Ochoa said.
“But it has been an exercise in mismanagement to the highest degree. There should be a class taught on this on, ‘How to not handle quarterback contracts’.”
With reports of injury brushed aside by Dak Prescott himself, the 30-year-old has only a few months left under his belt as a Cowboys player.
Dak Prescott reveals the conversations with Cowboys
Despite the immense delay, the Cowboys have started to negotiate with their QB for a new deal. Dak Prescott outlined his mindset to Cowboys insider Jon Machota. The three-time Pro Bowler said:
"I mean there's been conversations back and forth but for the most part for me as y'all know I've let my agent do that, especially as we get right here to training camp. The money and all that will take care of itself as it always has been.”
Dak Prescott has repeatedly reiterated that he doesn’t care about the money. However, fans would want this deal to be done by July 23, when the Cowboys start their mandatory training camp.
