"More of a bailer than a baller": Colin Cowherd takes a hammer to Aaron Rodgers' leadership credentials
New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers is about to kick off his 20th season in the National Football League. While Rodgers has a lot of accolades, radio host Colin Cowherd recently mentioned a questionable aspect of the QB's career.
Cowherd said on "The Volume Sports" podcast that Rodgers only has one come-from-behind win in 21 playoff games. He said that it is because he is a 'bailer' and not a 'baller' and once he is behind in a game, he's unable to pull it altogether and get a win:
(11:20) "I've said one of the statistics with Aaron, that doesn't make a lot of sense on the surface is his lack of come from behind wins in the NFL, 21 playoff games, he has one that would be low for a bad quarterback. He's an all-time great. And I've often used, maybe it's trite, a little glib.
"He's more of a bailer than a baller. ... When he plays poorly early, he quit, that he's not a thoughtful guy, he's just brilliantly gifted."
Colin Cowherd's criticism of Rodgers abilities as a leader continued. He said that Tom Brady was a true leader whereas Aaron Rodgers is just a talented quarterback:
"Brady's more of a leader, Aaron just more talent. And I look at him that there's a lack of fundamental lack of trust in a process, and when he struggles early in games, his body language shifts. When he trails late in games, there's a lack of trust for the playcalling. And that's part of his personality."
If Tom Brady's team was down, he would rally his offense to try and make a comeback. Colin Cowherd feels that Aaron Rodgers' frustration of being down in a game affects the play calling and trust in his teammates.
Breece Hall is determined to be Aaron Rodgers' offensive weapon
Aaron Rodgers' tenure with the New York Jets didn't begin as he had hoped. Just a few minutes into his debut with the team in Week 1, he suffered a torn Achilles costing him the entire 2023 NFL season.
As he gets ready to get redemption in 2024, one of his teammates promised to make his QB's job easier by being his 'bell cow' and top weapon. Running back Breece Hall appeared on the "Up and Adams Show" and said that he will be a reliable asset to Rodgers after his injury:
"It feels really good just knowing that I'm servicing him. I'm going to be one of his best friends just him coming off his injury. Me being the bell cow of the team, I'm going to be getting the ball the most."
Breece Hall had 299 touches in the 2023 NFL season without Aaron Rodgers. He had a total of 1,585 total yards and nine touchdowns.
