Buccaneers’ mass layoffs potentially another measure of desperation to keep Tom Brady in town
Tom Brady's future in the National Football League is a big topic of conversation after the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' loss to the Dallas Cowboys earlier this week.
While the 45-year-old quarterback is yet to make a decision on his future, the Bucs seem to be making decisions on their end to potentially lure him back.
The Bucs made significant changes on Thursday when they parted ways with key members of their coaching staff. Offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich, who had been with the team since 2019, was the first coach the team parted ways with.
Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times then reported that the Buccaneers fired wide receivers coach Kevin Garver. Longtime quarterbacks coach Clyde Christensen also decided to retire after his 43 years in the National Football League.
But that wasn't all, and Stroud then tweeted that the Buccaneers also fired running backs coach Todd McNair. It was a move that many saw coming as the Bucs' running game was nearly non-existent, with the team placing last in rushing yards and attempts this season.
With these moves, many NFL fans were quick to assume that perhaps these were to convince Brady to return next season. Brady's frustrations were clear on the sidelines each week as the offense was unable to get the ball down the field as they had the previous two seasons.
Perhaps if the Buccaneers hire a new offensive coordinator and position coaches, they could entice the quarterback to give it another go.
Where will Tom Brady end up in 2023?
Quarterback Tom Brady will turn 46 years old in August. As a free agent, he could decide to play anywhere if he does want to suit up for another season. He would likely want to sign with a team that is close to winning a Super Bowl. The Miami Dolphins could once again be on the table after the alleged debacle that occurred last offseason.
With quarterback Tua Tagovailoa's concussion concerns, the Dolphins may want to sign a veteran quarterback to complement their explosive offense. The Las Vegas Raiders are another option.
Brady's former offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels is the head coach of the Raiders and with the team parting ways with quarterback Derek Carr, there is an opening.
The Tennessee Titans and San Francisco 49ers are also two teams that may want to add a veteran quarterback to their offense. If Brady does decide to return for a 24th season, there's no doubt that it's with the goal of winning an eighth Super Bowl title. So the team giving him that opportunity will win the "Brady Sweepstakes".
