Tom Brady surpasses Peyton Manning on another all-time list, with Bucs QB turning history-maker in win vs Rams
He may be having a tough season, but Tom Brady is still Tom Brady. Having barely given a yelp against the Rams, when his team needed a game-winning drive to give their season a pulse, the GOAT returned in some fashion.
He led the Bucs on a superb 44-second drive with no timeouts after starting at his own 40-yard line. He ended up driving the Buccaneers down to the goalline and found tight end Cade Cotton for the touchdown and game-winner.
Given that the 45-year-old has played for an eternity, he passed Hall of Famer Peyton Manning for the most game-winning drives in NFL history - just another record in his ever-growing collection.
Given the Buccaneers' struggles this season, they were again on show against the Rams. Tampa Bay only converted nine of its 21 third downs and up until the last-second touchdown, failed to get into the endzone.
But as they say, bet against the 45-year-old at your own peril, and with only 44 seconds left and no timeouts, he produced a clinic to give the Buccaneers just their fourth win of the season.
Brady turns back the clock in final-drive masterpiece
If anyone doubted the 45-year-old's ability to play at the highest level, through three quarters, those thoughts would have been justified.
But in true iconic fashion, he turned back the clock and delivered a hammer blow to the Rams' season.
While Tampa Bay's season is still alive, the same can't be said for last year's Super Bowl champions. Sitting at 3-5, multiple games behind the surprise division-leading 6-3 Seattle Seahawks, the Rams will find it tough to make it to the postseason now.
They can thank the Tampa Bay superstar for that.
While throwing the football 58 times probably wasn't in Brian Leftwich's playbook, it worked out in the end.
The running game, though, was non-existent as has been a theme all season. Tampa could only rush for 51 yards as their quarterback was forced to throw them to a win.
While he has had his doubters through eight games (rightly so), the NFL gods provided a reminder that Tom Brady is still a messiah of a quarterback, and against the Rams, he showed exactly why he is still regarded as the king of the ring.
Count him out at your own peril.
