NFL analyst believes Robert Saleh firing was “wake-up call” to everyone, including Aaron Rodgers - “No job is safe”
Aaron Rodgers witnessed a change in the New York Jets coaching staff this week as HC Robert Saleh was fired. Speaking on an October 9 edition of "Good Morning Football," NFL analyst Peter Schrager called the firing a "spark" to wake up every person in the building.
[1:10] Schrager: "This is a playoff team. To me, that the spark, whatever it is, this was a wake-up call to everyone in the building. No job is safe, no person is safe. And the owners are actually doubling down on this group of men that are in that building, the owners are actually saying, 'Hey, we actually think we can still salvage this thing,'" GMFB
Schrager's comments suggest that no one is untouchable, including nearly 41-year-old Aaron Rodgers, for whom the end is much closer than the beginning. The question is whether the quarterback will hang up his cleats on his own or if a Jets fallout could be the final act of his career.
Aaron Rodgers' 2024 Jets stuck at same pace as Zach Wilson's 2023 team
Aaron Rodgers was brought in to be an upgrade over Zach Wilson. However, after five weeks, the 2024 New York Jets have the same record as the 2023 Jets in the same timeframe. Both teams sit under .500 at 2-3 and find themselves chasing a comeback to get into the playoffs.
The Jets have the longest active playoff drought in the NFL, and their closest competition in the race, the Denver Broncos, currently has the tiebreaker and the top AFC wild-card seed. Jets owner Woody Johnson hopes that a change in management might change the results, but such a change could be fleeting.
It could take several weeks for the new-look Jets to learn whether removing Robert Saleh was a net positive or a net negative for their postseason aspirations.
