NFL analyst calls out Jonathan Taylor’s “idiotic” game-changing mistake against Broncos
Colts running back Jonathan Taylor has received plenty of praise for his work between the tackles since joining the NFL. However, a mistake against the Denver Broncos in Week 15 sparked what might be the most backlash of his career. In a breakaway run to the endzone, Taylor accidentally dropped the ball to celebrate before crossing the goalline. The result was a touchback, giving Denver the ball as if the run never took place.
The rule is controversial, but the mistake itself was worse. NFL analyst Mike Florio expressed this on Monday's edition of "Pro Football Talk," comparing the touchback rule to North Korea and throwing "Jon" Taylor's name in the middle of Kim Jung Un.
"Kim 'Jonathan Taylor' un. We had the ultimate example. All the things came together. We had the North Korea rule, right? And the idiotic 'Why will human beings not hold on to the football until they know they've scored?' It's amazing. Where does this come from? As I cross the goal line, I'm just going to drop the ball. What is the point of it?" he asked.
"He dropped the ball [and gave up a touchback]. ... From that moment forward, the Broncos outscored the Colts 24 to nothing. That changed everything. That game was not necessarily over, but that would have been like the stake in the heart of the Broncos," he said.
The Denver Broncos put up 21 points in the fourth quarter, winning the contest by a score of 31-13.
The loss was disastrous for Indianapolis' playoff hopes. With the Broncos winning and the Chargers losing, Denver has jumped over LA in the playoff race. The Chargers now sit in the seventh seed as Denver moves into the sixth seed.
The Broncos face the Chargers on Thursday Night Football in Week 16 in a showdown that will have major playoff implications. If Denver wins, the Broncos will jump into the fifth seed temporarily over the Baltimore Ravens. If the Ravens win in Week 16, they would jump back into the fifth seed.
