NFL analyst calls for Tom Brady to brace himself after scathing welcome to Fox broadcasting career from fans
Tom Brady was the story of the UFL championship. Despite it being the final game of the UFL 2024 season, Brady became the largest headline of the 25-0 shutout. According to a Sunday article written by Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio, Brady was met with a chorus of boos in St. Louis on a day many claimed was his de facto first day of work at Fox.
Brady donned the microphone for part of the game as a guest of the Joel Klatt and Curt Menefee-led broadcast. After the game, he presented the MVP trophy and once the spotlight was put on him, a smattering of boos hit the airwaves.
In response, Florio noted that the quarterback should get used to the hostile welcome as he tours around the country with Fox:
"Brady had better get used to being booed. His Patriots ran roughshod over the league for years. There’s a lot of resentment still lingering."
Florio speculated that the boos were in connection to the quarterback's efforts in his first Super Bowl to defeat the Rams. At the time, the Los Angeles Rams were housed in St. Louis and Brady delivered the team's final defeat in the Big Game before moving to Los Angeles in 2016.
Then, following the team's move, any transplant fans were greeted with another Super Bowl showdown between Jared Goff and Brady in 2018. Brady defeated the franchise once again.
Tom Brady delivers work-in-progress commentary during Fox's first UFL championship broadcast
It was Fox's first UFL championship broadcast and so was Brady's. As such, some rough edges were to be expected. While Brady's debut was well-received by many quarters in the NFL world, there were expectedly a few rough edges.
The quarterback built a career in standing tough and delivering strong rhetoric. However, in the media, analysts and commentators are usually required to sand off the most scathing opinions. Additionally, they are often required to embellish athletic moves on the football field. In other words, a good move becomes a great move and a horrible move becomes an unfortunate decision.
It will be up to the quarterback to sand down his commentary, as during the broadcast, one could almost hear the gears turning in Tom Brady's mind as he searched for the correct words to say. However, at one point, when he was asked about his history, he dove right into a story with no trouble.
At this point, the retired New England Patriots superstar still has some rookie work cut out for him in close proximity to the gridiron. Will Tom Brady transition effectively to speaking about football instead of playing it?
