NFL analyst claims Cole Beasley and CeeDee Lamb’s online dustup results from jealousy

CeeDee Lamb and Cole Beasley never played together for the Dallas Cowboys. However, the two still found a way to entangle themselves on social media in a tiff. Reacting to the arguments, NFL analyst Mike Florio wrote in a Saturday article on Pro Football Talk that the cause of the altercation was jealousy.

"There’s a kernel of resentment at the core of this slow-time controversy. Lamb’s production is a product of opportunities, as Beasley sees it. And he apparently believes that, if he had the same opportunities, he would have made a lot more money during his 12 years in the league," he wrote.

The argument began when a video of Lamb training was posted online. Beasley called out the training regimen. In response, one fan called out Beasley for telling Lamb how to train.

Beasley responded to the fan, telling any detractors to "check the tape." That's when CeeDee Lamb jumped in.

Beasley had said he would have gotten more than 1000 yards if he received 180 targets, a nod to the 181 targets Lamb got in 2023. Lamb responded, saying he didn't need that many, challenging Beasley in the process.

"I don’t need 180 targets to touch a band. Pull up tape, I’d match you route for route on getting open. Just Chill," he posted.

Beasley's final season with the Cowboys came in 2018, while Lamb's first season arrived in 2020.

As such, in a way, Lamb serves as one of Beasley's successors. However, one could argue that isn't quite the case as Lamb is the number one receiver for the franchise while Beasley was deeper on the roster during his time.

The wide receivers are both at different stages of their respective NFL careers in 2024, but both have played their first three years with the Dallas Cowboys. Based on that comparison, Lamb's production beats Beasley's in an objective landslide.

In his first three years, Lamb earned about 3,300 total yards and 20 touchdowns. Meanwhile, Beasley earned just over 900 total yards over that span.

In his best season during his first three years, Lamb earned 1,359 yards and nine touchdowns. Beasley earned 420 yards and four touchdowns at his best in that span.

In terms of total yard totals, Lamb has a chance to pass Beasley. CeeDee Lamb has 5,145 yards in four seasons. Beasley, meanwhile, has earned 5,744 yards since 2012.

Will this offseason dustup spark any mid-season controversy if Lamb passed Beasley?
